Clyde
DescriptionClyde celebrates the River Clyde’s heritage through personal memory, maritime folklore and the city’s distinctive landmarks. One side features the famous puffer boat Para Handy, drawn from Neil Munro’s early 20th-century comic strip tales. These stories were introduced to me in childhood by a close family friend, forming a thread of shared history that links our families for over a century. The opposite side brings in the river’s industrial character — the red steel shipbuilding frames, cranes and gantries that once defined its skyline — alongside the sweeping Clyde Arc (“Squinty Bridge”) and the sculptural SEC Armadillo. Together, these scenes celebrate Glasgow’s humour, industry and imagination, carried proudly by Clyde, a small but spirited guardian of the river’s legacy.
