Rennie

Description

To create Rennie I have drawn influence from the world-renowned artist and master designer Charles Rennie Mackintosh, incorporating stylistic elements that echo the ornate architectural forms he created for Glasgow in gold colour and thistles in his style of artistic practice. Rennie the Scottie dog is created in celebration of Glasgow’s origins, its symbols, and its creative heartbeat. The design ecos the waterway from which the city grew, and the Gaelic roots of “Glaschu,” meaning the dear green place. The thistles are honour Scotland’s national flower and its history of resilience, while broom flowers appear celebrating Glasgow’s identity. Across the sculpture, 3D forget-me-not flowers in blue and gold represent amazing service provides by Maggie’s and Glasgow’s vibrant music and arts scene. Rennie is not only a tribute to the city, (my late friend from Glasgow) and to Charles Rennie Mackintosh but an inclusive celebration of everyone who calls Glasgow home.
